ISO 45001 – Occupational health and safety<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over 7 600 people die each day from work-related accidents or diseases – that\u2019s over 2.78 million every year*<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

The burden of occupational injuries and diseases is significant, both for employers and the wider economy, resulting in losses from early retirements, staff absence and rising insurance premiums.<\/p>\n

To combat the problem, ISO has developed a new standard, ISO\u00a045001,\u00a0Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements,\u00a0<\/em>that will help organizations reduce this burden by providing a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions, all over the world.<\/p>\n

The standard was developed by a committee of occupational health and safety experts, and follows other generic management system approaches such as ISO\u00a014001 and ISO\u00a09001. It will take into account other International Standards in this area such as\u00a0OHSAS\u00a018001, the International Labour Organization’s\u00a0ILO-OSH\u00a0Guidelines, various national standards and the ILO’s international labour standards and conventions.<\/p>\n

Every day, thousands of lives are lost due to work accidents or fatal diseases linked to work activities. These are deaths that could and should have been prevented, and must be in the future. ISO\u00a045001 aims to help organizations do just that.<\/p>\n
